I took a solid week off of riding, talking, or even thinking about bicycles. The last ride was at Boyce Park with Aaron and if it needed to be described with one word, "terrible" would fit the bill. Riding with Aaron is always fun cause he's a veritable peach, but that day was the breaking point of my riding season.
I was talking to Don just a few days beforehand and we both tiptoed around it; neither one of us really wanting to admit it to the other first. Then I just spit it out, "I think I'm sick of riding." I got a "Yeah me too" in response. Then we clarified that it wasn't necessarily totally sick of ALL riding, but going out and hammering for two or three hours didn't sound like fun. I'm looking for fun. Capital F-U-N fun.
So back to Boyce and I'm not having fun. I'm starting to wondering if Aaron trained for this ride complete with a week long taper. So we're riding and my new pads start rubbing and I can't get them to center up, and I can't convince myself to make the best of it. Aaron's going half a step faster than I wanna go, but I don't want to bitch, so I don't. Then bitch a little, and then a little more. Then we ride some more and my brake is still rubbing and it's getting worse or at least that's what is in my head. Then we hit a really fun trail; Capital F-U-N fun trail. So we're moving and I'm having a blast jumping over things and clearing rocks and logs while riding just on the edge of losing control. It's a good thing that tree was there to stop me from having too much fun. Head on, no brakes, no last minute turn. I hit that guy as square as you can hit a tree. Aaron was in front or else he probably would have ended the ride right there. My leg was pretty jacked but I didn't notice that till I got home. My rear derailleur was bent a little which helped me shift into the spokes a few times. We rode another few miles before I almost threw a fit. Done.
So I took a week off. I'm gonna ride tomorrow and I'm pretty excited about it. Oh by the way, I have two of the best friends ever at TOP. More on that later.
